Having a good plan – More important now than ever

By this time, most growers have a pretty good idea on what they would like to accomplish this coming growing season and how they are going to get there. We have always stressed over the years that working through the winter months focusing on our crop plans for the upcoming spring will help make life easier when we finally get there.

Under the current circumstances with COVID-19, it is more important now than ever to solidify those crop plans for the fast approaching spring 2020 season. At this point in time, we may not have full access to stopping in at the branch for a visit, but certainly encourage as much communication as necessary over the phone and email today.

In the next week or two, it may be beneficial to both the producer and their AGRIS location to solidify needs, plans and how to execute.

These are a few things to consider while you may be stuck in the office or in the shop:

  1. Seed: hybrid/variety placement, seed treatments, scheduling pickup/delivery
  2. Soil sampling: filter through fields that may still need to be sampled, our system tracks date of last sampling
  3. Herbicide programs: work with your crop specialist to look at what’s best for controlling & preventing the weeds on your farm. Residual chemistries and multiple modes of effective action are no longer an option. The weeds are winning.
These are some of the things we can do to prepare all of us for this spring. With that, we are always talking about other things including what’s new with fertility and 4 R practices  fungicides, grain, fuel, etc. As we narrow down some ideas, we can begin putting some product on farm to help reduce some stress in the next few weeks.
Let us help with solidifying your cropping needs now to help eliminate some of the pressure as spring approaches. Most importantly, call your local AGRIS or Wanstead Farmers Co-operative anytime and stay safe out there!
Remember to follow us on twitter at #EssexAgronomy to see timely information from the field. Since we cannot hold our regular meetings this is the next best way to bring you current and relevant agronomic information.
Stay safe stay healthy.
